STORY: American entertainer Barbra Streisand received on Monday (June 17) an honorary doctorate degree of philosophy from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
According to the university's press release, the honorary doctorate is a recognition of her professional achievements, humanitarianism and commitment to civil rights.
"I am so grateful to be here today to receive this honorary doctorate of philosophy. For close to thirty years I have had a deep connection to the Hebrew University. It is not only home to a diverse population of some of Israel's best students but as you've heard it also houses the Emanuel Streisand and building for Jewish studies,"she said.
The Oscar and Emmy-winning actress and singer arrived in Israel on Sunday (June 16) to sing at a 90th birthday celebration for President Shimon Peres and perform at two concerts in Tel Aviv.
