Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has resigned from the Constitutional Council - after it upheld a ruling by an electoral watchdog that he exceeded official spending limits during his last campaign.
The ruling means Sarkozy is no longer eligible will lose out on a reimbursement of around 10 million euros.
