One of Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari's most trusted aides is killed in Karachi Wednesday.

Police say he was killed in a suspected suicide bombing as he stopped his armored vehicle to buy some fruit.

About a dozen other people were wounded in the blast.

No one is immediately claiming responsibility for the attack, which took place on the eve of the start of the holy Muslim month of Ramadan.

The latest wave of attacks across Pakistan has brought an end to a period of relative calm after Pakistan's first ever transition between elected civilian governments.

It was the first attack in Karachi since mid-June.
