Fox NFL Sunday announces 14-time Grammy nominee Bruno Mars as the headliner for next year's Super Bowl halftime show.

In the kickoff of the first full weekend of professional football, 27-year-old Mars and his band, The Hooligans, were introduced before hundreds of screaming fans at Times Square in New York City.

The NFL says the Super Bowl halftime show is the most-watched music event in the world, and more than 110.5 million viewers saw last year's show, which featured Beyonce.

Next year, the game will be held on February 2 at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

He joins a list of singing legends who have headlined the Super Bowl halftime show, including Bruce Springsteen, Prince and Madonna.
