My wife lost her job and we decided to split up for the time being because of marital issues regarding the debt. In that time I was very upset, worried and had no clue of what I should do. I was kicked out of the rental house we lived in, well because it is her fathers rental property. I went to live with me parents for a little while. I decided to enroll in a Debt Settlement Company. I have been with them now for over a year. As of yesterday I received a summons to appear in court from the two enrolled creditors, and yes it is real. I have checked the SOL in my area and it is not yet over that mark.
So my question is what are my options? I was thinking about filing for a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy. If I do, should I still need to go to court? I do not own a home. However I do own a car. Can I keep my car and continue making payments? How does all this work? I need help, I'm 25 and have no idea. This shouldn't have happened to me. Yes I have made mistakes, but I thought I was doing the right thing with this company getting it together. What now? -
