The ocean holds a vast amount of mysteries and surprises. Nobody knows that better than seamen.
A shipment of crabs arrived at a port in Japan on January 18th. Wholesaler Marusan Mikami was responsible for bringing some of the creatures up.
While the container, from Russia, held a bunch of red king crabs, which is what the shipment was supposed to be comprised of, there was an extra bonus. Employees for the company were flat out stunned to see a huge crab, entirely lavender in color.
It reportedly weighed over 7 and a half pounds and had a leg span of over 3 feet.
Said the president of Marusan Mikami “I’ve been dealing with crabs for 25 years, but this is the first time to see that color. It could be a good omen.”
Since the photo of the pretty crab was released online, Netizens have guessed the reasoning behind the odd color. Some thought dye, others believed radiation was the cause.
Experts, however, suspect it’s a gene mutation resulting in a lack of pigment or the crab’s diet as possible factors.
