Just hours after a truce was declared by Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich and opposition leaders, violence and gunfire erupted in the center of Kiev Thursday morning resulting in casualties and injuries.
Anti-government demonstrators hurled petrol bombs and stones at riot police in Independence Square, the center of a three-month standoff.
Demonstrators could be seen dragging bodies through the streets, others were being covered with blankets.
At least 28 people have been killed including 10 police officers.
Both sides have accused the other of using live ammunition.
All of this on the day foreign ministers from France, Germany and Poland are meeting with Yanukovich to discuss a political compromise.
The crisis began last year when Yanukovich pulled out of a trade agreement with the EU under pressure from Moscow.
