Emergency services in the Canary Islands say staff mistook a large tugboat pulling a ship for a crashed plane, sparking fears of an aviation disaster.
It was acknowledged as a false alarm, just moments after initial reports said a plane had plunged into the sea off the Spanish island of Gran Canaria.
