North Korea’s Kim Jong-Un has been reaffirmed as First Chairman of the ruling National Defence Commission.
His re-election came as no surprise as Kim was the only candidate with no one else allowed to stand. His appointment was backed by the country’s new rubber-stamp parliament, the Supreme People’s Assembly.
Kim has recently tightened his grip on power, last year he had his politically influential uncle executed and last weekend 11 high-ranking government officials were either killed or jailed.
The state-controlled Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) described how the parliament clapped and cheered as the result of the election was announced.
