'Cabaret' which began its musical life on Broadway back in 1966 has made a welcome return to New York City's Studio 54.
Alan Cumming returns as the Emcee for which he previously won both a Tony and Olivier award with Michelle Williams as the showgirl Sally Bowles.
The musical is about the liberal cabaret scene's demise as Nazis took power in Germany. It may be a revival of the production originally staged by Sam Mendes and Rob Marshall back in 1998 but it also marks Williams' Broadway debut.
SOUNDBITE Actress, Michelle Williams, saying (English):
"It's more than I thought it would be. It feels very different from a movie premiere or anything else I've been a part of. We were at the theater early today and there is a lot of traditions that are involved in an opening night and that was sort of - it was great to be involved in that."
Luckily for Williams, her co-star Alan Cumming has been portraying his role since 1993.
