It's a journey that started with smiles and laughter as Sherpas pose for camera's on Mount Everest.

Discovery Channel crews were at base camp preparing to chronicle Joby Ogwyn's attempt to make the first wing suit flight from the summit of Mount Everest.

Instead, on the morning of Friday, April 18, tragedy struck. An avalanche killed more than a dozen sherpas that day in the deadliest day ever on the world's tallest peak.

Ogwyn watched the tragedy unfold.

"The avalanche, just started moving down towards them -- almost like it was in a funnel -- and it moved directly in and just covered everybody up, everybody that I could see. So, very quickly I started to get dressed and get ready because I knew right then that something really bad had happened."

On May 4th, the Discovery Channel will broadcast a 90-minute documentary, called "Everest Avalanche Tragedy", around the world.
