A mountain lion that was recently spotted roaming around a residential neighborhood in Mountain View, California has been captured.

Local police and state game wardens responded to the area after separate reports came in regarding potential sightings of a mountain lion. While the search for the creature was underway, residents were asked to stay inside and call 911 if they saw it.

Roughly three hours after police began searching for the animal, they had it cornered. The mountain lion walked right into an apartment complex’s gated garage and police quickly closed the gate in an effort to keep it in the same place.

Mountain View’s police sergeant remarked “This is the best case scenario, where we were able to actually get it in a place where it’s confined enough, where it’s not a danger anymore. It’s kind of by luck that it went into an area that’s actually like a large cage.”

Although the animal was cornered, transporting it away from the apartment complex wasn’t easy, as the electricity went out and many locals refused to stay inside their homes out of sheer curiosity.

At about 11 P.M. a game warden was successfully able to get into the garage and tranquilize the mountain lion.
