Friendship has two wide welcome gates
Through which have come all friends and mates:
Shared loves and interests,
Shared enemies and hates;
Friends last long; mates have shorter dates.

A five liner, similar rhyme scheme, and yet
this is no limerick, nor is it cast in anapaest
metre. It is iambic tetra metre. The mood and
message too are serious.
