Being married is a lot like
Eating handfuls of jelly beans
One after another.
In about every dozen sugary lumps
You find one sour lemon.
Most of these will turn your mouth
Inside-out at first,
But when you chew them in with the rest,
You soon forget their tartness.
Being married is a lot like
Eating boxes and boxes of Crackerjacks
One after another.
In about every hundred kernels of sweetness
You find a hidden surprise.
Most of these are worthless tin whistles
You lose the next day,
But some are priceless treasures
You carry in the pockets of your heart
For weeks, or months, or years.
