Surprise Me!

Tony Jolley - Casting Kisses

To one who wouldn't wake at my invitation............

I cast my kisses as nets upon the deep waters of your sleep,
The mesh of my mouth measuring the length of your lips
Sinking.
Sinking slowly.
Sinking softly
Into the fathomless realms
Far beyond the surface of your silent slumber.

Do you slip through my kiss-net
As a silver shoal of darting dreamlets
Searching the seas of your subconscious?
Do I cast again for the denizen of the deeps:
That eyeless dream where the light of the living never falls?

Were you to swim, unknowing into my tender trap
Would your power propel me from the prow
Drag me over, drag me under,
Take me down and drown me to all thought of awakening;
Or might my kiss lure your lips to life once again?

You shift.
You stir.
Nets tighten.
Sinews strain…

Then you are gone....

Leviathan: My Love.

For no nets may hope to hold this prisoner of sleep
Till Neptune’s grace grant her freedom
To swim to the light of her lover’s lips
To be caught in the kiss of the dawn.
