before my own and very heart
has overtaken my retreat,
and made me her infernal haunt;
a slave to alibi - undone
or daunted by the spectre of
what could have been,
were i but brave.
what would i do but this, my love?
what other life compares?
when eden fits me like a glove,
and paradise is where you are?
'twould be sheer folly did i leave
in search of treasures i possess;
in forfeiture of destinies
myself had dreamed of
former days.
