Always I hear your voice
Though you’ve been gone a good few years.
‘Dirty girl! ’ as I chuck down an apple core.
‘What will they think of next? ’ and
‘Do any of your people like fish? ’
My people, my tribe, my family
ate the fish you cooked; your people
ate something different, with averted eyes.
I hear you making excuses for them.
Letting go of my own young
My voice will echo in their heads
Thus: Get some sleep, cook proper food for yourself,
If you can’t afford it you can’t have it, and
Remember we love you.
Different messages.
