From the halls of Montezuma,
to the shores of Tripoli.
A Mexican adventure,
to gun-boat diplomacy.
One hundred years of service,
to the US century;
still the troops are spooked and nervous,
as they kill for victory.
From the poppy groves of Afghanistan
to the oil fields of Iraq;
the only truth is American
as all light turns to dark.
No fine stroll in the garden.
No bluff walk in the park.
Young soldiers quickly harden
as they leave their deadly mark.
No weapons of destruction;
no children with bouquets.
No thanks for “liberation”,
from cities wrecked and razed.
Only George and his glib generals,
dressed in drag flight suit and blaze.
Only endless occupation
is the marine's hymn and malaise.
