Love is eternal and timeless;
frail human bodies decay.
Once so young and ambitious.
Now much older and grey.
So many years spent together,
so many fears held at bay.
Through fevers and fierce stormy weather,
you still hold me breathless in sway.
I know, you've only one shot,
at life. That's all you got.
Some say, the jury's still out.
They pray, to eliminate doubt.
But I think, that's what it's about:
the meaning of life, is living it.
When I leave I've nothing to carry,
but the memory of your gentle soul.
Don't grieve if I cannot tarry;
let the bells roll out their toll.
So many years spent together,
so many fears held at bay.
The torch will burn on forever,
as lit on the very first day.
You won my devotion with kindness;
your humour and deep sense of play.
Forgive my emotional blindness.
I just get carried away.
I will leave without any hurry.
I will try to take my time.
Don't grieve if I cannot tarry;
let the bells toll out their chime.
One thing only I'm sure of;
the one thing only I know:
the last embrace of a great love,
makes it so hard to go.
I will leave without any worries;
my mountains have all been climbed.
Believe me. I am not sorry.
For with you, it was truly sublime.
