David SmithWhite - Song: The Gambler

In search of a game I left my home.
No goals or aims; content to roam.
I followed a path of unusual bent.
The cards and the women were heaven sent.

So just let it ride on the turn of a wheel,
on the click of a gear and a prayerful appeal.
Just let it glide in the spin of a deal,
a moment transfixed, trips up time surreal.

I built my abode at a frantic pace.
With rich design and stucci.
I'd found the code for eternal grace,
and the secret of being lucky.
If I was a soulless outsider,
I still danced upon the edge.
I laughed at yawning danger,
and scorned the coward's pledge.

So just let it lie on the throw of a die.
A fortune risked in the blink of an eye.
Just let it lie. The wages of zen.
The gods play the odds
with the calculation of men.

I carved out worlds of exquisite taste.
My will was staunch and plucky.
I'd found the code for eternal grace,
and the secret of being lucky.
If I was a lonely out-rider,
at the frontiers of the mind;
I only searched for pathways round:
escape I could not find.

So just let it lie on the throw of a die.
Just let it lie. Lie fallow.
Just let it slide while the feelings inside
hang like the humours of gallow.

So just let it fall on the toss of a ball.
Just let it fall. All follows.
Just let it fall. For a cost that is small,
we pawn our shy dreams for dollars.
