My cigarette fall's
out of an overflowing
ashtray,
lands on the carpet
and starts to
burn a hole.
'Jesus FUCKING Christ' she yells.
'Can't we have ANYTHING nice
without you fucking it up? '
She's mad at me.
She has been for 2 days now.
'Hey baby, it's o.k' I say
trying to defuse the situation
'It's not that bad, see..'
If looks could kill
I'd be dead before
I hit the floor.
'It's NOT o.k' she spits out
'It's the same bullshit
that I have to put up with
day in and day out
and I'm FUCKING SICK OF IT! ! ! ! ! ! '
She's waiting for me
to ask what's wrong.
She's waiting for me
to make that mistake
so she can really cut
loose on me.
The Tv in the corner's
playing Errol Flynn
so I turn my gaze
towards it
knowing I'm in
a no win situation.
'THAT'S FUCKING RIGHT! ! ! ' She screams
'JUST FUCKING IGNORE ME! ! ! ! ! '
And with that
she grabs her coat
and slams the door
with such force
that she nearly
breaks the glass.
I sigh and light
a fresh cigarette,
breath out a plume
of smoke
a remind myself
that I told her
when we first met
that I didn't do
Valentine's Day.
