If my heart were a road
It would be
Empty, barren
And closed…
Never to let anyone in.
If my heart were a book
It would have
A million pages
Yet they’d all be bare
If my heart were a tree
It would always appear,
Striped of its leaves
As if to be winter year round,
And spring would never come.
If my heart were a hundred dollar bill
It would be
Worthless, thrown away
As if it was a scrap piece of paper.
But my heart is not
An empty road,
A bare book,
A tree without leaves,
Or a worthless hundred dollar bill
My heart is me,
It only feels that way.
