He's not divorced, he says, not yet,  
until the right time comes 
he'll wait, prepared to hedge his bet,  
for he has done his sums 
from which he learns it would be wrong 
to dump the wife he has. 
He knows he's stayed with her too long,  
but can't afford, alas,  
the luxury of leaving her,  
and so, until he can,  
he'll carry on, adulterer 
and married gentleman.
