With heavy heart I sit and write
A valediction for a friend
who has ascended to the light.
With calm acceptance at the end
he shuffled off his mortal coil.
Upon his faith he could depend
His silver tongue the perfect foil
to banish all your cares and woe.
He’s left behind this world of toil.
I think that he was glad to go.
He lost his wife and when she died
It came as disastrous blow.
Not used to living on his own
he missed her pleasant company
and did not want to be alone.
He lost the will to carry on
there was no point that he could see
and so he followed where she’d gone.
Its always sad to say farewell.
But what he wished apparently.
Life without her, to him was hell.
