I wake up early, to count one day less
Yet 27 days seem so far away
I try to will time to go by faster
Yet 27 days don’t seem to change
I hold my thoughts and save my words
Unsure if they will survive these 27 days
But I know you will remember, as you do always
And lend an ear, to my stories deranged
I hum the songs we used to sing and wonder
How many new ones you’ll find, in these 27 days
But I know my love, you’ll get me up-to-date
And it will soon be as if I never was gone
I walk alone, leaving footprints in the snow
And wonder where all you’ll go in 27 days,
But I know, you’ll carry me with every breath
And soon I’ll be by your side, along each step
The sun sets at noon, mocking me
Bringing on a night of cold and want
I close my eyes, hoping it will be you I see
Breathing down my neck, as the morning dawns
Imagine my despair at not seeing you there
And I realize that I am still here
Yet, a small voice in my head, comforts me
Because its one day less, until we meet
I begin to count the days afresh
Like a greedy child for Santa waits
I remember your voice, your gentle caress
And smile because its 26 days left
