i know what i may do
visit the black swans anew
if still they glide upon the lake
to stand once again along it's shore
as we did that summer day
to cast a stone
for my thoughts
cleaning the memories
from soul and heart
when, if, I return to that place
will it be as it is burnt in my mind
will it be for her, the woman anew, or myself
strange question, and so unkind
you can tie your hopes to a stone she said
sail it across the water for life, luck, and love
what about tying the past I now ask
to cast away a love undone
no, two hold such memories
two people, not one
thus, skipping a stone
can not server bonds of the heart
do we ever break such ties
or, simply turn our back on them
i never severed the ties that
first trip back
i simply closed the book's cover
while retaining its story in
mind and heart
thus, a skipping stone is not an end
but a start
