Pegasus soars through the heavens
freed from the strength of Hercules.
dragons swoop by in curiosity
but never halt their fiery dance
as the phoenix leads their ballet
across the sky. Mermaids swim
and splash above them, as soft
as the light from the first star
to shine its radiance in the sky. Or as
sweet as the air, the lover's whisper
to the falling day, so soft and sweet
that no droplet leaves their darkening pool.
Yet Pegasus veers away from their sparkling waves
and follows the night to where the black watchdog lies
as he stretches and howls to his shadowy pack,
who streak the land to greet him.
And so Pegasus flies on his silent flight
till he fades behind the stars and the breath of night
daring me to follow his darkening delight.
Yet I, to this earthly prison am bound
to forever be but Shadow's shadow on the ground.
