Licking syrup made from maples
brought from Canada by ships
to my townhouse here in Naples
where I kiss Italian lips.
She pretends well at auscultation
with her ear on my thumpity chest
and we talk of the subject lactation
when I tell her that breast is best.
Tit-for-tat means my ear now is pressing
to her heart, just to check all the sounds,
tis true science, one cannot be guessing
as the doctor is making her rounds.
