Checking each other out
in the Early Dutch,
the casual second glance—
there's the Girl
with the Pearl Earring,
which is fine,
but the Germanic girl
in faded denim and soft cotton
by the Van Dyck
is even better.
Stare all you want at the Vermeer,
but you had better not
gaze too long
on the moving bits.
