Rows of dogs
Splayed pon laboratory floor
Flesh barbarically stripped
From perfect healthy hips
Panting
Breathing
Drowsily
Lifting their heads in dismay
At the dog which besides it
Just lays....
One
With its tongue hanging uselessly to the floor
Gazes at the camera

Pet food companies
Billionaire sleaze
And the cages
Dans le dark nights
Ricochet howls as screams
Screams the like I have ne-er heard before
Nor would hope to witness again
Howling at a free cream moon
Which I doubt that they have seen
As paws tentative parade pon the metal bars where they must walk
Sleep
Shit
They must shit
It's all shit

And those shepherd dogs
And beagles
Cross breeds
Cut guts
Intestines removed
Legs broken
And removed
Lungs and livers tested

And that (sigh) little sandy dog that I doubt has ever been stroked
Leans towards the camera lady
Tail retaining a gentle
To and fro
As she looked the camera square in the eye
I cried
I cried
And the atrocities that she
And the others have to face
Overfeeding cats
Starve thereafter

And that tiny tabby
Stared suspiciously through me
From her own
Barbaric cage

I asked myself
What the hell for?
Our own beloved PET FEED
Beggars belief
I mean what if my dog slipped out
Stray
Where would he end up
Hopefully not
This deeply guarded
