Dilantha Gunawardana - Suicide

What is preserved
To the last drop of hope
To which man has entitlement
A vessel with a passenger
To which there is a solemn clause
Never to surrender in will or spirit

Yet man relinquishes his tryst with form
A star in the twilight sky
Summoned to the cataclysm
Of a meteoric supernova

For man extinguishes all flames
His burning will to perpetuate
To his final chapter
His fated last breath, his final dance
With the perennial soul

For the strain of pneuma
That traverses the labyrinths within
Is pledged by god to all of humanity
To which there is a nemesis - the man on the mirror

For each river is promised an estuary
Except when man builds his dam
For suicide is the truncation of a span
True salvation for the myopic man
