As I walked along the ridge
I crossed life span’s bridge
To my amaze
Unseeing – fixated gaze
On one side of the narrow track
Was a continuous barrage of flak
On the other, a bottomless pit
What if I had strayed a wee bit?
Shaken by the thought, my feet faltered
What if the path had been altered?
Caution! I said to myself in my mind
Must warn the one following behind.
But alas! He thought he was already there
An old cautious fool like I – a square.
I cajoled, beseeched him not to stray
He said why look at inane contours
