Surprise Me!

John Westlake - 120. We Were A Living Fire

2014-06-18 0 Dailymotion

We were a living fire
and when we were close
we were so bright
for all the world to see

Held so close we barely breathed
(sharing the air in our own space)
hearts beating like as one
(living as a single creature)
minds thinking they were attached
(each mirroring the other’s thoughts)
souls welded together
(until death and then beyond)

Hoping the flames would never die
praying the warmth would never fade
wanting the feeling to last forever
dreading the cold of finish

Eventually the fire had to die
it cannot be immortal
even the hottest ones will fail
leaving only ash

We were a living fire
and when we were close
we burned too bright
now there’s nothing left to see
