Aniruddha Pathak - Like a caterpillar

Like a caterpillar’s born every man,
Atop though on the ladder and apart,
Here, higher to go, to play destined part,
As if to be butterfly if he can;
Born captive as is to beastly nature,
He aught strive hard to rise from his stature.

Yet, how many would— from life’s blinding lure?
Cosy in raw comforts of a cocoon,
Weak of will they may strive nor yet endure,
Nursing bodily whims, living in vain,
Too timid to dare pluck promising boon,
Condemned alas in cocoon to remain.

Yet, those that dare cut confines of cocoons
Wing-born to be— would see morrow’s bright noons.
