Surprise Me!

Matthew Densley - End Of Days

The day has come, the end is nigh
Everything is soon to die
All the people and all the flowers
Will perish soon in final hours

Some sit in their bunker basements
Wishing for their new world placements
Pointless plans for preservation
None survive extermination

Priests pray with their flocks in church
For some salvation they all search
The fearful choose to end their lives
In knowledge that no one survives

While chaos ensues everywhere
No one seems to really care
There's crowds of people, having fun
The prince and pauper all as one

Police dropp truncheons and join in
In any, every type of sin
Jail cells open, lags released
No more reason to be policed

Vandals take out their aggressions
Mobs of men loot for possessions
Things that they will never use
All those riches they will lose

All fall victim to temptation
Old folk party in celebration
They've had their run, a full lifetime
But the young are cut down in their prime

As the party outside gets too wild
Inside the mother cry's for her child
Who will never grow to be a man
Seen on her cheeks the tears that ran

A cloud of smoke comes floating down
From every city, every town
As buildings burn down to the ground
And light the sky for miles around

I hear the last sweet song of birds
As I am sat here writing words
That none will ever read or hear
The end of the life is drawing near
