A drone has crash landed into the largest hot spring at the Yellowstone National Park in Utah.
According to officials at Yellowstone, eyewitnesses reported seeing the remote-controlled drone flying into the Grand Prismatic Spring located in the Midway Geyser Basin.
Al Nash, a spokesperson for Yellowstone is quoted as saying: “Assuming we can locate the device, we have to determine whether we can remove it without creating any damage. The whole incident remains under investigation.”
The drone might belong to a tourist who is unfamiliar with the law passed in June that makes drones illegal to use in all national parks across the United States.
Since the rule is fairly new, the National Park Service wants to educate visitors rather than punishing people who use drones without checking the rules.
Park rangers at Yellowstone are now trying to figure out how to rescue the drone from the hot spring that is reportedly 400 feet wide and 120 to 150 feet deep, with a temperature of around 160 degrees.
They are investigating the incident to identify the owner, and to see what would happen if they try to remove the drone, or if it is left in the hot spring where it crashed.
