Sant Joan Despí (Spain), Aug 20 (EFE).- Argentinian player Javier Mascherano, who is to extend his contract at FC Barcelona until 2018 the following week, was proud that the team decided on his continuity at the club and said he would try to contribute to coach Luis Enrique's project. "By the end of last season I offered the team the possibility of letting me go, I told them that, if they believed I didn't meet their requirements, I didn't have a problem in leaving. They told me they believed I could still contribute to the team," Mascherano told a press conference Wednesday. Luis Enrique's praise of the Argentinian during his first press conference as Barça coach was key to the player not transferring to Naples. "I am very thankful for his comments and I hope to prove what Luis Enrique thinks of me in every single training session," Mascherano said.
