It's a firefight in Syria that knows no end.

As various armed rebel groups fight government forces in a civil war now in it's forth year -- the Syrian government says it is making large gains.

(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SYRIAN OFFICIAL SAYING:

"We continue our fighting operations in Jobar and thanks to our armed forces, we could kill a huge number of rebels and we regained control of a large number of buildings."

This neighborhood in Jobar is crumbling. Missile strikes by government forces have left the city shadowed by clouds of smoke.

The Syrian government now faces new challenges as it seeks to fight Islamic State militants attempting to form a "caliphate" in Iraq and Syria.

There's no place to call home for refugees in this war-torn country.

The United Nations has estimated the number of Syrians displaced within Syria stands at some 6.5 million.
