Hong Kong has returned to relative normality following a week of protests over how the Chinese controlled city is governed.

The number of demonstrators fell dramatically overnight and civil servants have gone back to work.

Still, a lasting solution between Hong Kong’s pro-Beijing leadership and protest groups remains some way off.

“The confrontation has eased and we are sending our sincere apologies to the public. We hope the dispute can be solved peacefully. We don’t want to impact on people’s daily life,” said one protestor.

Over the past few days tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets to demand the resignation of leader Leung Chun-ying and that China allows the people of Hong Kong to vote for a leader of their choice in 2017.
