Close to 471 km have been lost to deforestation in Panama, a direct result of real estate developments in the country. Experts, activists and environmental attorneys such as Harley Mitchell, say that all of the initiative, proposals and projects that are part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 16), need to be incorporated into legislative reforms so that the Panamanian government is held accountable. teleSUR
