Surprise Me!

Paul the Lion - Talkin' Pretty Girl Blues

In some lonesome dusty saloon
Sittin' on a broken bar stool
Drinkin' a lot of scotch
I feel like such a damn fool

Cursin' myself a storm
I throw the scotch glass against the wall
The bartender shoots a glance at me
Says that was your last call

Stumblin' out of the bar
I walk into the street
Lookin' for somethin' to grab
I can barely stand on my feet

Some dude on an ugly horse
Rides up an asks for a favor
Can you tell me where the lady-action is?
I say a-over yonder

He flips me the bird as he rides away
But I couldn't care less
'Cos since my pretty girl left me
My life's been a mess

I had me a purrrty girl
But I used to treat her so mean
And so she said later man
Then she split for Abilene

This is a big state to be
A lonely man, that's for sure
Though I could get me a woman anywhere
All I want is her

Walkin' into another saloon
I kick some little girl's cat
She looks at me and screams and cries
All I notice is that my beer belly's a-gettin' fat

I get me a bourbon and light a smoke
Look up and the lady dancer smiles at me
Then I look deep inside my angst-ridden self
And think, if I made her, how wrong would it be?

After dancin' she comes up to the bar
And asks if I'm a-lookin' for fun
We go upstairs and mingle
Then she cleans me out and runs

Causin' some more trouble
They throw me out on the road
This burden of guilt and missin'
Not sure if I can handle the load

I had me a purrrty girl
But I used to treat her so mean
And so she said later man
Then she split for Abilene
