Surprise Me!

Ashleigh Gaffney - I Am Sorry

Everything you said and did was right for me,
I can’t discern why I failed to see.
Your disciplinary action was your patter of correction,
Could it have been that I felt guilt and contrition?

I now thank you for holding me in your hands,
You love and wisdom multiplied into many grains of sand.
You taught me the difference between right and wrong,
I understood your heartfelt lullaby and song.

We went through trouble and trauma together,
But I still called you mom
Out of great appreciation of one another

We went through the phase of insecurity,
This was the breaking point to tranquility.
I was registered and restricted,
My foolish action of opposition got me convicted.

I am so so sorry mom
For inflecting on you such sorrow and pain,
Please show compassion and forgive me
For I deeply declare a sincere apology

Sometimes I wondered and worried, can we ever work it out?
You then reminded me you were a seed and I was your sprout,
I registered a feeling that we were incomplete,
I yet had not realized how hard you worked for me to eat.

Now I'm proud to say, me and my mom have reconciled,
I could raise my head high and say, “I am a gifted child.”
