I am happy you’re alive.
I want you to see and feel love,
even from one stranger to another,
see that I have an honest love for you.
I think you were a gift to the wrong people.
You’ve hopped along unsteady stones
and now your socks are wet.
If you’ll allow it, please,
let me take your troubles upon myself.
I cannot unstep your steps,
though I can point to the rocks that are solid and sound.
I’ll help you
show them you are better than what they see,
than what you see,
to be as perfect as I see your heart is.
(And, ah, such a heart!
Your blood is not poison.)
I see you and I know that
I am looking at wonderful.
I am happy you’re alive.
