I tore your kiss
from my lips
where for years
it had built its nest.

I peeled off
your touch from my cheek
to seek peace with my self.
I plucked you
from my heart

to be free
of the pain of you.
I shattered
my soul’s reflection of you
to escape the ghost
of your haunting.

I broke into pieces
the memories of you
to prevent them
owning me forever.
I burned my tears
that shackled me to you

to have again the freedom of the skies
only to find I
had destroyed
what little was left of me.
