Homely comforts
Rural way of life
Loyalties remain
Wishful tributes
Vanished brews
Pie and peas, soup
Cheese and ham
Signs of welcome
Well worn doorways
Buildings fulfilling -
A humbler purpose
Since medieval times
Blackened kettles
Ever-burning fires
Simple signs
Inscriptions records -
Time and a date
Skirts the roads
Made from stone
Pilgrims, drovers,
Packhorsemen, now
Tourists refreshed
Some haunted by
Travelers - never left
Local mementoes
Pitted oak tables
Heart of a village
Past generations -
Memories still remain.
