He was a champion athlete when he was in his prime
But now his face is wrinkled the mark of father time
The years have left him weary and silver gray his hair
His best years are behind him he seems the worst for wear
From the mid fifties through the sixties he was a great athlete
And in every race he ran in he was the one to beat
He enjoyed his many victories and he did love his renown
But nowadays one decades younger is the new toast of the town
He is yesteryear's hero though his is a well known name
And few things last forever and few things stay the same
In the pubs of his Hometown his praises often sung
But that was many years ago when he was fit and young
He is yesteryear's hero and though some his greatness do recall
Old father time his master and that applies to us all.
