I took a ride just the other day
Out in the country past fields of hay
Old farm houses in a rickety state
I knew destruction was their fate
Back then they made brave choices
You could almost hear their voices
Our forefathers worked the land
Strong values on which they’d stand
Wanting a fresh new start they chose
A rugged way of life so there rose
A homestead to raise their children
Women worked ‘long side their men
And then as I left the countryside
To the city where I now reside
Realizing nothing forever lasts
Remembering those folks from the past!
