When you ride the winds of chance,
They'll take you where you would not stay,
Where no friends are; a happenstance-
Where no one seems to know the way.
When you ride the tails of fate,
You'll go where all have gone before,
And you'll find the hour's late-
And the guard has locked the door.
Better walk, than ride aboard
A thing that has no heart, no brain;
And never have to call as lord
The ready symptom of your pain.
