Raw ground hamburger machine gun rounds
rattle tattle shells from
the devils dirty turf.
On the other side,
bagpipes and drums try triumphantly
to rally the men forward out of fear
into the white curtain of powder smoke
where unanswered prayers float
upward into nowhere.
