The drunken tenants
had cornered me
Set up shop outside shop
outside doorway
to my apartment.
When asked why I never
stopped by, I told them
I was not a big fan of BBQ
goat hooves and
foreign tongue
conversation
but still sat down
for a Tiger
Horse and Elephant
beer while trying to find
an excuse to leave
They soon returned
to talking
amongst themselves
Loud voices and laughter
reverberating
amplifying
as it was thrown against
the tall building walls
In the middle of a
specially heated
argument we
heard the sound of metal
hitting the pavement.
First one, then more
Like Pennies from Heaven
One of them got up
and retrieved one
of the fallen objects
A bullet.
After a little
searching, one for each
member at the table.
We looked up, seeing nothing
but dark balcony windows
and the vast night sky
but understanding that, somewhere
up there, someone
was watching
The party died
after that and I got
to go home
Apparently God IS
listening or maybe
He just wants
his quiet too
